Paramore Newsletter: Heading to Los Angeles

Well… It’s been about 4 months since we’ve written to you guys. Awkward! But honestly, this “off-time” has set the record for the longest amount of time we’ve ever spent off since before the couple of weeks we spent making our 1st full length album back in 2005.

Don’t kid yourself though. It hasn’t been all hangs and no hard work!

What the three of us want you to know is we are headed to Los Angeles next week to meet with a whole mess of really incredible producers. And we are – basically – bringing you along with us to find the one that will help us create our 4th full length album.

So, we’re taking a video camera with us to producer meetings, hotel recording sessions, and all of our LA adventures. If you don’t know, now you know, next week is a big deal for us and we are psyched to make you a part of it.

New Gallery Theme

“I was Sure Taylor was going to leave the band’

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has revealed that she was sure that the band’s guitarist Taylor York would quit the group when Josh and Zac Farro also announced that they were leaving.

The Farro brothers left the band in December 2010 and have since formed new outfit Novel American, with Paramore remaining as a three piece with Williams, York and bassist Jeremy Davis and a series of touring musicians for their live shows.

However Williams, who was heavily criticised by Josh Farro via a lengthy internet blog after he left the band, said that she felt sure that Taylor York [pictured right] would also go when the Farro brothers left and was surprised when he told her he wanted to stay in the band.

She told Alternative Press: “When Josh and Zac were leaving, me and Taylor weren’t close at all at that point. Me and Jeremy were always pretty tight through the last few years. But I was pretty sure that it was just going to be me and Jeremy. I was really scared Taylor was going to leave too.”

Williams then said that she and York had a heart to heart and he convinced her that he was going to stay in the band.

She said: “Me and Taylor went to a show in Nashville and after we went out to eat and he was like ‘You know I’m not ready to go anywhere. I still have more to do in Paramore’. And after I just got in my car and cried and then wiped the tears away and thought ‘Okay we’re going to be all right’.”

Paramore are set to begin work on their fourth studio album in early 2012. They recently released three singles ‘Renegade’, ‘Hello Cold World’ and ‘In The Mourning’.

Hayley talks about Cosmo Cover

Hayley, I was reading some of the Paramore diary/blog entries from this year. There is a theme of rebirth in what you were talking about—like when you were discussing how you were on the cover of Cosmo earlier this year. You were saying things like, “I’m going to accept my role” within Paramore.
Hayley Williams: I still think about that. Being on Cosmo is not something I’ve ever strived for. I never was like, “I want to be a Cosmo girl.” I don’t know if you know me, but I don’t typically care about things like that—even [though] as a girl, I love fashion magazines, I love beauty products. That was a weird thing for me to go through, because I did have to accept, like, “Dude. Cosmo magazine just came to me and they were like, “You know what? Your band’s kickass, we like you. Come be on our cover.” What other band band are they even talking to? Other than a pop singer like Rihanna, all the rest of the cover girls this year have been actresses—I remember right before me was Olivia Wilde. [They were] just gorgeous, beautiful women—and I will never put myself in the ranking of those women. It’s not like I have super issues with myself—I definitely am like any other person, I’m self-conscious a lot of times—but I will never put myself on a list of women. But Cosmo did.

Holy crap! I still don’t accept it, and I still don’t feel like it was real, but I accept the fact now more than ever that I am the girl in Paramore, and even though I don’t always want people looking at me, sometimes they’re going to. And I gotta get over it and stop whining about it. Because we’re okay—we weren’t okay, and that’s probably what made me so kind of insecure about being the singer. But we’re fine now, and I don’t have anything to prove to [my bandmates]—they know I’m not trying to be, like, [Gestures like she’s attention-getting] all the time.

That was a head trip doing Cosmo, for sure. I’ll never wear those outfits ever again. [Laughs.]

Welcome to Version 3!

I decided it was about time to have a new layout, after moving to my own hosting. I also wanted to go to another dark layout and have something totally different but still really clean and ‘squarish’. Im still working on changing a few colors around the site, and sorting out the sidebar (as it looks a bit of a mess still).

New photos and screencaps will be added to the gallery soon. Along with possibly a new gallery theme, for the new year. Thanks.

Paramore look to rediscover the fun

Paramore are moving forward, with a song-a-month “Singles Club” and plans for a new album in 2012. But in the new issue of Alternative Press (on newsstands December 1), they aren’t shying away from the past either.

For the magazine’s cover story, Paramore discuss the departure of founding members Josh and Zac Farro last winter and how it forced them to realize that perhaps they had been approaching the business of being in a band from the wrong angle. Namely, they forgot all about the fun.

“We’ve always enjoyed what we do,” guitarist Taylor York told the magazine, “but we’d watch other bands on tour with us, and they would just be having a blast. They’d be in vans, all cramming in one hotel room. Every day, they were just stoked to be there. In my head, I’m like, ‘Either they’re just really mistaken, or we’re missing something. I don’t think it’s possible to have that much fun.’ ”

“I felt so bad for the longest time, because we made being in a band look like it wasn’t fun,” frontwoman Hayley Williams added. “In my opinion. Other people might not have thought that, but you imagine all the interviews we did where it was just like, ‘Uhh … ‘ ”

Gee, wonder which interview she’s referring to? Still, after surviving the split with the Farros, Paramore rediscovered the joy of being in a band while on tour in South America, and that’s what gave them the desire to press on with a new album.

“This winter, when Zac and Josh left, we went through a really hard time,” York said. “I think we had to go through that. We all love each other, but we had to come together so closely that we really rediscovered how much we really love each other — and how much we love playing music. We had to go through that to realize what we had.”

Recharged, Paramore are pressing on with their new record — one that, from the sound of things, will be a spirited affair indeed.

“It’s important for young people to know how much fun it is to make music with your friends,” Williams said. “You have to fight for it, of course, but it’s the biggest gift to play music for people, and it’s a gift even if you’re not playing for anybody. It’s fun, and I’m excited. We’re stoked to have that spirit revolving around this [forthcoming] album and just relax into the process.”

Paramore front AP Magazine

Paramore, fronted by the button-cute, flame-haired spitfire Hayley Williams, cover the January 2012 / Most Anticipated of 2012 issue of the youth music bible Alternative Press.
With members having bolted in between the band’s last album and now, Williams and her mates battled through the drama and are now in a better place and looking to have some fun. Because after all, isn’t that what band-dom is about? In the accompanying story, Paramore speak about how they found a way to have fun again.

“I felt so bad for the longest time, because we made being in a band look like it wasn’t fun,” Williams mused. “In my opinion. Other people might not have thought that, but you imagine all the interviews we did where it was just like, ‘Uhhh…’” Every band goes through these phases.
